Soryg is a monospace typeface family that was designed in the late 1990s as an experiment in vectorizing technologically limited on-screen bitmap fonts, with a deliberate rejection of optical compensation. The consistent and simultaneous application of the two design principles—monospace and monoline—within a strictly limited, grid-defined space creates characters ranging from expected conventional forms to unexpected hybrid letterforms. The current version of the typeface family has been redrawn, metrically refined, expanded with diacritical marks, alternative characters, mathematical and other symbols, and produced in 11 weight variations, which allow for numerous variations in the syncopation of different font sizes to a uniform stroke width.
